Initiated by her observations of shadows in the earth and shadows on the ground, the artist spent weeks perfecting the technique used that allows objects to be represented in two dimensions onto canvas. When objects live or perishable, such as humans and fruits that they transform into a picture of themselves. Her ephemeral painterly style is obvious and what survives of Alexa Meade's art is a photograph. Both photographic and painting methods are tightly interwoven and result in an unflat, 2-dimensional space which is able to achieve trompe l'oeil, wherein the third dimension is only visible within certain places like near the eyes or in hair. Meade sometimes incorporates painted models in the space surrounding them. It allows them to engage with the environment the artist has constructed. The boundaries between performance, installation, photography and painting is thus broken.
